Gardens of Grandeur & Grace: Sissinghurst

Sissinghurst needs no introduction. It's constantly rated as one of the best gardens in the world. Sometimes, though, it can be disappointing. If the spring hasn't been good then Vita's beds can seem devoid of colour, and the famous roses – which young gardeners from National Trust properties all over England learn their pruning skills on – can seem, well, underwhelming.

Not this year. Sissinghurst is having one of its best seasons, according to many English garden friends. The season is ahead by almost a month, and so the roses that normally bloom in mid- or late-June are all out – and seem to be bigger and more beautiful than ever.

If you're coming to England this summer and heading to Kent, I can tell you you're in for a treat. Vita's garden is a visual feast.

Here a few pix from yesterday's visit. They don't do justice to the garden, and for that I apologise. I wish you could smell the fragrances and see the peonies. It was simply magnificent.
